Which Moisture & Mold Control Products are the Best?
In the world of pest control, moisture is often the enemy. It is a top contributor to insect intrusion from termites, ants, silverfish, psocids, spiders, mosquitoes, gnats, phorid flies, and many others. Moisture is also a direct contributor of mold.
Mold is a type of fungus that is prevalent just about everywhere, playing a very useful role in nature by breaking down decaying organic matter such as leaves and returning them usefully to the environment. In small amounts, mold spores are usually relatively harmless. But some people find themselves highly sensitive to mold, exhibiting allergic reactions such as skin rash, sneezing, runny nose, water eyes, and other similar symptoms. Some molds have been proven toxic even to people without such sensitivities.
Mold is an important indicator that an excessive moisture condition exists, and that corrective measures should become an immediate priority. Dehumidifiers can be used to reduce the moisture content and relative humidity in a given environment. As a proactive measure, homeowners should equip themselves with a moisture meter than can easily gauge the content of wood, drywall, and carpets throughout the home in order to detect the onset of moisture before mold or other insect infestations have a chance to develop.
