Which Insecticide Aerosol Products are the Best?

Using aerosol products for certain pest infestations has some advantages, along with some certain limitations. Among the advantages is that aerosols typically come in a ready-to-use pesticide formulation, removing the need for measuring and mixing or additional application equipment. Aerosols may contain contact insecticides that provide an immediate kill, residuals that may continue to kill long after the application, non-repellents designed to be undetected, among others.

The practicability of using an aerosol product depends on several factors, including the type of insect, extent and location of the infestation, and other environmental considerations. Here are some of the ways aerosols can be utilized:

  • Space Foggers: Foggers can be an effective approach for rapid knockdown of insects in confined spaces on exposed surfaces.
  • Flushing Agents: Insecticide aerosols such as CB-80 can be used as a contact killer or to flush insects out of their harborage areas as part of an inspection or treatment program.
  • Contact Killers: Some aerosols might be an excellent option for knocking out that American cockroach on the bathroom floor. A quick targeted spray and the enemy has been neutralized.
  • Aerosol Foams: Insecticide aerosol foams may be an excellent option for getting treatment into enclosed spaces or wall cavities where insects are traveling or harboring.

When using aerosols, remember that certain particulates are likely to become airborne. Some pesticide aerosols have stronger smells associated with them than others, and some of them may contain chemicals or compounds in addition to the active pesticide ingredient. It is important to follow all label instructions during the aerosol application process, and wear all recommended personal protective equipment.
